transport assessments & statements

Transport Assessments and Transport Statements are documents that evaluate the potential transport impacts of proposed developments. They detail an assessment of the transport impacts of development, highlighting any required mitigation in order to promote sustainable development. They are required for all developments that generate significant amounts of movements. Transport Assessments represent a thorough assessment of the transport implications of development, typically required on larger scale developments, with Transport Statements being a ‘lighter-touch’ evaluation, usually required for smaller-scale developments.

Transport Assessments and Transport Statements play a key role in delivering sustainable development, and can help to:

  • Promote sustainable travel.

  • Lessen traffic generation and its detrimental impacts.

  • Lower carbon emissions and climate impacts.

  • Deliver accessible, connected, inclusive communities.

  • Enhance health and quality of life.

  • Enhance road safety; and,

  • Reduce the need for new development to increase existing road capacity.

The arcitran team have extensive experience of preparing Transport Assessments and Transport Statements for a range of clients and projects across the UK.

Transport Assessments and Transport Statements are often prepared alongside Travel Plans. Transport Assessments or Transport Statements often propose mitigation measures where necessary to avoid unacceptable or severe impacts should the development come forward. The Travel Plan typically plays a key role in taking forward those mitigation measures where they relate to on-going occupation and operation of the development, such as the provision of travel information or the promotion of sustainable travel modes.
